The video starts with Giles sitting pretty for the camera with a stare that feels very intentional. This guy is a German Shepherd, so he naturally has that watcher and protector energy. But he is also a total goofball whose life is documented at @gilesthegermanshep. He is currently in that teenage phase where he learns things very quickly. In a recent video, this dog shows exactly what happens when he hears a “gentle” command from his human. He doesn’t just follow the command. He really over-delivers.

Dog’s gentleness amuses owner in adorable video

His mom says it once. “Giles, gentle.” And the change in his face is instant. Ears soften. Eyes widen a bit. Processing is clearly happening. That’s when her hand enters the frame holding a toy, which explains what he’s been staring at this entire time.

Then mom brings it close to his snout, and he just wiggles his nose. He wants to sniff it first. He looks at his mom for permission. Once he non verbally getst the go-ahead, he opens his mouth a tiny bit. Then he pauses. He does it again. Mom is literally vibrating with laughter behind the camera. You can see the toy shaking in her hand because she thinks his following the “gentle” command to the T is just too funny.

He is being so careful. He finally takes the toy when she gives it a little nudge. But he is barely holding on to it. He behaves like he doesn’t want to leave a single mark on the ball. He stays that way until he hears “good boy.”

His owners mentioned in the comments that he is a good boy “when he wants to be.” One viewer wondered how Giles does it since their own dog is a “full on land shark” who eats everything. Giles is the total opposite here. And he even does this with ice cubes in other clips. He just has a very soft way of handling things for such a big, sturdy guy.
