Tommy the Bernese Mountain Dog only “loses” his owner for a moment in this hilarious video from Instagram user @tommythebernese, but the dog makes sure everyone understands that he took offense. In the video, Tommy trots down an empty hallway as if he is on a mission, and then, he spots his owner. All hell breaks loose because the poor dog cannot understand how he feels.

After spotting his owner in the video, Tommy stops. For a moment, he stands there and stares, as if his brain needs a second to catch up with what his eyes just found. The very next moment, he charges straight toward his owner. As the Bernese Mountain Dog comes close, he lets out a grumbly growl while his owner laughs without saying a word.
The on-screen caption explains, “My dog loses me in the house…panics for 3 seconds…then finds me and gets mad.” In the video’s caption, the owner admits they are still trying to read the dog. She wrote, “Can’t tell if he’s mad or happy, or both?”
In many cases, dogs love keeping tabs on their person. Thus, when Tommy’s owner disappears, even inside the house, the dog goes into search mode. When he finds his person, the relief hits, which sometimes comes out as excitement. For some dogs, that excitement sounds like a grumble, a huff, a “don’t do that again,” or all of it wrapped up as “thank heavens you are here.”
