If you need a reason to smile today, look no further than Hudson the Golden Retriever and the toddler who has proudly assumed the role of his bath assistant in an adorable Instagram video. Instagram user @hudsonbegood posted a short “How it started vs. How it’s going” video, and it’s one of those videos you keep watching over and over.

The first half of the video shows the early days, where mom sits beside the tub, washing both the dog and her baby at the same time. Hudson stays perfectly still, just letting it all happen. The vibes in the video are calm and sweet, and very much the picture of a Golden Retriever who learned early on to share bathtime with a toddler.
Later, the second half of the video shows that the toddler is older and also apparently in charge. He stands in the tub with a blue plastic container, carefully pouring water over Hudson’s back and his tail — basically everywhere he can reach. Hudson doesn’t move except to gently step up and place his paws on the edge of the tub, as if to help his buddy angle the water better. The video shows a patient, amusing, and an admiringly tender bond between the two.
Anyone who has lived with a Golden Retriever knows their soft nature well and knows how oddly tolerant they are of whatever their humans do. And that includes bath time.
The comments section lit up with admirers.
