Seeing your Grandma sick can be painful, and this dog named Chewy is no different in an adorable Instagram video from user @chewythenewfoundland. The Newfoundland looks like the kind of pup who could make anything feel better just by showing up. In this video, though, Chewy does not bounce in like a normal happy dog. He acts genuinely worried because his grandma is not well.

The video opens with the giant dog close to the couch, leaning in as his grandma pets his head. She sounds touched that he came over, asking him, “Did you come over here to see me?,” and then adds, “I’m glad you came over,” while she keeps her hand on his fluffy head.

The next moment shows the Newfoundland lying on the floor with the saddest expression, as if he plans to keep watch all day. His mom tries to reassure him, saying, “Chewy, Grandma’s okay,” and even his grandma follows it up with, “It’s just a little cold.” But Chewy still does not budge.

The onscreen caption explains what viewers already see, reading, “When his Grandma is sick he gets so upset.” Meanwhile, under the video, the owner also wrote in the caption, “She’ll be okay! He’s just so sensitive to her every move.”

Canines really do pick up on small changes, noticing when someone moves slowly or sounds different. Some dogs also react to scent changes when a person feels under the weather. And if you add a strong bond on top of that, like Chewy shares with his grandma, you find your furry friend keeping their eyes on you and waiting for things to go back to normal.

Chewy may not understand what a cold is, but he does not really need to. He understands his grandma feels off, and his solution is to stay close and not leave until she is better.
