Cold weather can bring out very different reactions, not just in people but also in pets. Some animals seem built for snow and icy winds, while others would rather stay wrapped up somewhere warm.

A recent Instagram video has people laughing, capturing the contrast between two very different dogs living under the same roof. Shared by the account @missclairol, the short clip highlights how a pair of dogs, one with southern roots and one with northern heritage, respond in opposite ways to a snowy day.

The video opens indoors, where Olaf, a Blue Heeler, sits by a window watching the snowfall outside. On-screen text reads, “Our southern dog.” Olaf appears calm and observant, keeping his paws firmly planted on the warm floor as he looks out at the white-covered yard. He doesn’t make any move toward the door, seemingly content to admire winter from a safe, heated distance.

The camera then pans to the view beyond the glass. Curled up comfortably on a thick layer of snow is Gizmo, a Husky mix. The next line of text reads, “Our northern dog.” While Olaf stays inside, Gizmo appears completely at ease outdoors, resting directly on the snow as if it were a soft blanket. Her thick coat blends into the wintry setting, and she looks unbothered by the cold temperatures.

In the caption, the owner jokes, “Gizmo can’t make up her mind yet but Olaf prefers the warm couch.”

The difference really comes down to history. Blue Heelers were bred for warm climates and active farm work, meaning they prefer comfort when temperatures drop. Huskies evolved in some of the coldest parts of the world, where thick fur and cold resistance were essential for survival. That’s why a snowy yard feels like paradise to one dog and something best watched from indoors to the other.
